Share the Promise

An event to support need-based tuition assistance at Carolina Day School

Share The Promise in partnership with Rosemary Beech

Share the Promise: Though the event must change, the need is still strong.

We know hundreds of you planned to attend and/or contribute to Share the Promise in support of tuition assistance and our school. And when fundraising events are canceled, it poses a true financial challenge to nonprofits and independent schools. Carolina Day is no exception. As an independent school, we are entirely self-funded. Share the Promise provides a substantial amount of tuition assistance funding to students who rely on it. While we cannot hold the event as planned, tuition assistance is still a critical need that supports over 100 of our current families.

Though the event could not take place as planned, our Carolina Day School community rallied together in support of Share the Promise and our tuition assistance program! We are so grateful to all who participated. We are especially grateful to our 2020 event Chairs, Margaret and Josh Gibbs, who are champions of the cause and whose energy and enthusiasm remained strong even when COVID-19 changed the event plans. Please join us in giving a big thank you to our alumnus keynote speaker, Jeff Stewart '94, who remained true to the cause, delivering his message virtually.

Watch alumnus Jeff Stewart '94's virtual keynote!

Thanks to all of our Raise the Paddle supporters, raffle ticket buyers, and our generous challenge match donors, to date Share the Promise 2020 efforts have raised almost $100,000 for tuition assistance and our school! Donations continue to arrive in the mail and online; thank you to all of you whose support is on the way!

Share the Promise would not be as exciting or successful without the Raffle! Thank you to all the businesses listed below who generously donated awesome experiences and products.

Congratulations to our 2020 STP Raffle Winners:

On behalf of Carolina Day School, and the 620 students it serves, heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make this success possible. Your support keeps the mission of Carolina Day burning bright. Together we demonstrated two fundamental CDS truths: that we care deeply about our children, and, when the need is great, our Wildcat community can be counted on to rally in support of our students.

Can't wait to celebrate and inspire with all of you again in 2022!

Needed more time? You can still support Share the Promise and tuition assistance! During these challenging times, tuition assistance is more important than ever for many of our families. You can still make a difference: Raise the Paddle gifts can be made and pledges can be fulfilled any time between now and June 30.

"Kids who are bright, who make our beloved school a stronger community of intellectual engagement come from all different economic backgrounds."

—Carole Hilderbran, Director of Tuition Assistance and Parent of Alumni Maggie '15 and Scott '17

In this video, Carole Hilderbran talks about the value of tuition assistance to Carolina Day School.

You might be wondering what it's all about... What happens? What makes this evening so unique and exceptional?

Margaret and Josh Gibbs were new to the Carolina Day community in 2016 during the last Share the Promise event. In this video message, they talk about their 2016 Share the Promise experience and what they recall what was the biggest surprise for them about the event. Since 2016, the Gibbs have grown to love the event and cause, and they are now volunteering as our 2020 Share the Promise Chairs.

A healthy, robust Tuition Assistance program benefits everyone. In this video, Upper School science teacher Bill Wolfe shares a teacher's perspective on how tuition assistance raises the bar for academic excellence in the classroom.

When you can bring students in from really diverse backgrounds—geographically and socio-economically—you're going to get a mix of thinkers who can sharpen other students that are already here. BILL WOLFE, UPPER SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHER
