The event takes place on Friday, March 6, 2025, on the campus of Carolina Day School at 1345 Hendersonville Road in Asheville. The day begins with coffee and refreshments in Nash Athletic Center, so guests who are attending should park and make their way to the Nash first. (Lower and Key Lower School students are to report at their usual time to their classrooms.)

Grandparents & Friends Day is a community event for grandparents and special friends of Lower School and Key Lower School students in grades Pre-K through Grade 5. It's a day in which they are invited to campus to enjoy a concert performed by students, followed by an opportunity to visit their child's classrooms, meet teachers, and experience what makes Carolina Day so treasured for their grandchild or young friend. 

Parents and siblings are absolutely invited! In fact, children love for their families to attend the program and watch their performance. We ask that you give priority seating to special guests (grandparents and friends) and those needing chairs, however, if floor seating fills up. There will be plenty of bleacher seating for those able to sit in bleachers.

While this is a dress-up day for students, guests are also welcome to dress up or dress as they are comfortable. There are no requirements or expectations.

All students in Lower and Key Lower School should report to their classrooms at the same time they would report on a normal school day. (There is no school for students in grades 6–12 on Grandparents & Friends Day.)

The program begins at 8:45 a.m. in the Nash Athletic Center. Doors open for seating, coffee and refreshments at 8:15 a.m.

Yes! In anticipation of an increase in traffic as well as a forecast of precipitation, CDS will offer complimentary shuttle service for Grandparents & Friends Day.

• Off-site parking will be available in the lower parking lot of the Forest Ridge Shopping Center (Walmart) located at 1636 Hendersonville Road. CDS shuttle buses will pick up riders on 10 minute intervals beginning at 7:30 a.m. and ending at 11:30 a.m. All riders will be delivered to the front door of the Nash Athletic Center. All returning riders will be picked up at the front door of the Nash Athletic Center.
• In addition, CDS will also provide on-campus shuttle service between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. with pickup and drop off at the following locations: Nash Athletic Center, Upper School, Key Lower School.

Drop-in classroom visits begin after the performance. These visits are informal, allowing students to share some of their work and show you their classrooms. Families and friends may move freely from one child’s classroom to the next. 

If you have children in both divisions (LS & KLS), we encourage you to visit Lower School classrooms first before coming to Key Lower School.

You may also feel free to explore Love Hall and Oreck Library until 11 a.m., when school is dismissed for the day.

There is no After Care on Friday, March 6. Students should depart with their parents or guardians when the event concludes at 11 a.m. There is no afternoon bus service on this day.
