After School Enrichment
Make the most of your child's extended day at CDS with our After School Enrichment program. Designed to ignite creativity, exploration, and a love for learning outside of the classroom, our range of programming introduces new and exciting disciplines into the lives of Carolina Day students. With a variety of classes often including art, STEM, and nature, your child is bound to find a session that will spark their curiosity.
Classes are subject to change depending on interest and instructor availability. The courses listed are examples of classes offered from previous semesters.
Yoga & Art
Through creative movement, restorative play, mindfulness, therapeutics, and self-expression this series helps children increase mind and body awareness, strength, flexibility, focus, and creativity. Children will learn tools for self-regulation, build social-emotional skills, and practice a variety of breath-work and mindfulness techniques to use throughout their daily life. We will then use art as a means to expand and deepen this practice as we explore a variety of art mediums. This combination of Yoga & Art helps to guide children in self-exploration and self-expression as we get to know the world with-in and around us. This class is brought to CDS by Asheville Kids Yoga & Art.
Clay Club
Calling all Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade artists! Get creative and have fun with Clay Club. Together we will work with our hands, get a little messy and use our imaginations as we explore clay handbuilding techniques.
Robotics and Coding with Zaniac
Learn the basics of using the Blockly coding language with some help from our robot Dash! Blockly is an intuitive and visual way to learn how to code. Build problem-solving skills and imagination as we program Dash to complete challenges. Scratch is also introduced to our students to learn programming concepts such as sequences, loops, iterative development, and debugging using a modern, block-based approach. Students create animations and videos to share with friends and family. No experience is necessary. This class is brought to CDS by Zaniac.
Chess: Beyond Basics
In this class we will learn about basic openings, piece development and tactical attacking patterns in the middlegame. We will also look at when a chess game transitions to an endgame and how to use the king as a weapon! To enroll in this class, students should know how the pieces move and capture, and how to checkmate your opponent’s king.
