Cathy Cantwell has been the Administrative Assistant for the Upper School since 2012. She previously worked in the College of Education at Appalachian State in the Deans’ office and at UNC-Asheville in the Chancellor’s office.

What do you like most about your job at CDS? “First of all I love my job. The dynamics of the entire Upper School community is an ongoing opportunity to observe real-time love of learning. The Upper School environment makes it easy to have personal contact with students. We enjoy a relaxed atmosphere that allows meaningful interaction between adults and students."
In your opinion, how does the CDS community inspire students to be courageous and curious, wonder about things that they don’t understand, try new things, and develop individual passions? “The curriculum is innovative and involves enthusiastic teaching techniques, especially outside the classroom. Our students have a strong sense of identity which allows them to focus on learning.”
What personal passion brings balance to your life? “Running, walking, biking, kayaking. I enjoy gardening and especially being a grandmother.
Why do you see CDS as valuable? “Watching our young students take advantage of their surroundings and helping each other grow is a valuable experience.”
