B.A. in History, Occidental College 1979
Kirk Duncan joined CDS in 2014 as head of school. The school immediately launched a strategic plan process, which was completed in August 2015. The school also initiated an $8,900,000 building and capital campaign to construct a new Lower School, library, and reception entrance. The school began construction in June 2015.
Kirk Duncan graduated with a B.A. in History from Occidental College in 1979 and with a Master’s Degree in International Education Administration from the University of Southern California in 1994.
Kirk began his teaching career in 1980 at Flintridge Preparatory School in Los Angeles. From 1985 to 2003, he worked at Campbell Hall Episcopal School in North Hollywood, California, where he began as a seventh grade history teacher and flag football coach, became a grade level dean, dean of faculty and was the associate headmaster of the school from 1996- 2003.
In 2003, he accepted the head of school position at Holy Innocents' Episcopal School in Atlanta where he served until 2010. He led the school’s efforts to raise $18 million toward constructing athletic fields, a new middle school building, and a new gymnasium. Kirk also led the school’s strategic planning process, beginning in 2003.
In 2011, Kirk became the head of school at Washington Episcopal School in Bethesda, Maryland. He led the school’s strategic planning process from 2011- 2013. The school also developed four acres, constructing an artificial turf field.
In 2012, Kirk was married to the Reverend Sarah Anne Wood in New York City. Sarah served as chaplain at Grace Church School in Manhattan from 2011 until 2014. Sarah currently serves as a chaplain at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
Kirk has two grown children, Tyler Duncan and Emily Petrick, who live in Los Angeles.
