Theatre: Upper School's One-Act class traveled to Kings Mountain, NC to perform the premiere of their original adaptation Anywhere But Here! as part of the North Carolina Theatre Conference Annual High School One-Act Play Festival. Their work earned “Excellence in Adaptation” and “Excellence in Ensemble Acting” awards. The judges also selected Anywhere But Here! for the “Honorable Mention – Distinguished Play.” (The “Audience Choice” and “Judges Choice” plays move on to the State Festival. If either play cannot attend, Anywhere But Here! would perform at the State Festival.

To create Anywhere But Here! director David Dvorscak edited two of Anton Checkov’s full-length, four-act masterworks - The Three Sisters and The Cherry Orchard – down to 15 pages each. Then, in collaboration with the cast, he wove together the two edited shows into an intricate, surprising, humorous, touching 45-minute romp through eight acts of existential angst.
