Carolina Day School welcomes two new international students

Carolina Day School is pleased to welcome two new international students this fall: Alex Soler and Mieke Klemann. These scholars are joining the Grade 10 class for the 2018-19 school year through Carolina Day’s partnership with ASSIST, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization that matches academically talented, multilingual international students with American independent secondary schools.

  • Alex is from Spain and will live with Chris and Elizabeth Mailander, whose sons are Connor ’21 and Abraham ’25. Alex is into soccer, surfing, skiing, and tennis. He also plays the guitar and enjoys language, mathematics, and politics.

  • Mieke is from Germany and will live with Jason Bergman and Connie Herbst, whose daughter is Jacey ’21. Mieke enjoys swimming and kung fu in addition to choir and creative writing. She's looking forward to studying English, geography, and history.

During their one-year school stay, these ASSIST scholars will serve as cultural ambassadors, actively participating in CDS classes and extracurricular activities. Please join us in extending a warm Wildcat welcome to our new friends.
