Profile of an Artist: Genevieve Beatty '20
One of Carolina Day's core beliefs is to embrace challenge and persevere. It's a core belief that dovetails with a number of our students' pursuits in excellence both in and out of the classroom, including artistic expression. In this video, CDS sophomore Genevieve Beatty talks about why art is such an important part of her life, and how she challenges herself artistically. "This last year I've really grown, I think, as an artist. I've been a lot more open, and just trying a lot more things."
This year, Genevieve aimed to stretch herself even further. She said, "I've never really made a dress—I would just draw them all the time. This year I wanted to push myself and do something very out of my comfort zone—I wanted to create a scene on a dress. And then I started researching, and I found silk painting." Her efforts resulted in the creation of a silk gown that received prestigious national recognition in the 2018 National Scholastic Art & Writing Competition.
Genevieve's can-do spirit is an excellent example of CDS core beliefs in action: embracing a challenge and finding her way through to a satisfying expression of her creative vision. Watch the video to hear her describe the journey. #journeyofexcellence #cdslearns #wildcatpride
