Carolina Day School teacher Libby Roland named Odyssey of the Mind Coach of the Year for the Western Region
Carolina Day School Lower School Technology Coordinator Libby Roland has been named Odyssey of the Mind Coach of the Year for the Western Region. The Odyssey of the Mind (OotM) is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level.
Roland brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to CDS and the OotM team in teaching young students to engage, explore, and learn.
Lower School principal Kim Broshar said, “As a creative and artistic person herself, Libby inspires an engagement in our students that leads to an incredible experience for our OotM teams. Working collaboratively to solve problems, and to communicate their ideas to the audience and judges creatively through set design, acting, and song can be a life-changing experience no matter what the final decision from the judges. The students have already won because of the rich learning opportunities Libby has coached them through. We are excited that Libby has been recognized for the contributions she has consistency given to our students over the years.”
On February 24, Carolina Day School OotM teams placed second and third in their divisions at the Regional Competition in Marion, NC. The second place team will advance to the State Tournament on March 24.
