The weather may have been cold, but hearts were warm and spirits were high as we gathered in Hudson Hills to celebrate the beginning of the 2015 Student Build House.
During the event program, students from the three sponsoring schools described the “toolbox” required for a Habitat house – a toolbox filled with teamwork, generosity, dedication, advocacy, and volunteerism. The students have been working hard all year long, learning about Habitat and then spreading the word; raising money with community appeals and grant proposals and special events; recruiting volunteers; and giving presentations.
Trish Wolfe, the Student Build House “Partner Family” did her best to express her gratitude and admiration for the three schools and for everyone involved in the project.
“All this you’ve been doing for months and months,” she said with amazement, “before you knew my name, before you met me or my children, before I even knew I would be approved for a Habitat house!
Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity echoes Trish’s gratitude and admiration – we are proud to be working in partnership with Asheville Christian Academy, Carolina Day, and Christ School. The students really nailed it when they coined the tag-line for this project: Three Rivals, One House –Everyone Wins.
