The US Society of Literature, Art, Music, and Media (SLAMM)—comprised of students who voluntarily meet weekly during lunch—inspired, collected, edited, and formatted student and faculty writing, artwork, dance, music, and the Upper School one-act play to produce both a printed and online version of Interrobang. The faculty adviser is Susan White; the Editors-in-Chief are Catherine Davis '20 and Mary Manning Holmes '20.

NC....Carolina Day School rising senior Ryan Philip raised nearly $50,000 to benefit children in the African village of Rwinkwavu in Rwanda. Ryan was inspired by a visit to the town last summer with family working with Partners in Health, a nonprofit based in Boston that supplies medical services and improves health systems in areas of extreme poverty around the world.

The NCISAA Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (NCISAATFCCCA) announced the recipients of the 2019 Track and Field Athletes of the Year and Coaches of the Year Awards. Lee Langstaff '20 is the recipient of the Track and Field Athlete of the Year Award in the 3A classification.

The CDS Golf team advanced to the NCISAA 3A Golf Championships, which was played at the Bryan Park Championship Golf Course on May 13 and 14. When scores were posted on Tuesday, the results were a third-place finish in the state this year, missing a second-place finish by only two strokes. This is the highest finish the team has recorded in an over a decade.

Carolina Day School defeated Hickory Grove Christian Academy 2-1 on Tuesday in the NCISAA 3A semifinals to advance to the girls soccer team's first championship game since 2004. The Wildcats will travel to Kinston, NC, where they will face off against Arendell Parrott Academy in the state championship game Saturday, May 18, at 7 p.m.

The Carolina Day School Wildcats girls soccer team may have been the #12 seed in Saturday's NCISAA quarterfinals, but that didn't stop them from taking the victory over #3 seed High Point Christian Academy. With a goal at the three-minute mark, the Wildcats took the win 4-3 vs. the HPCA Cougars.

Navante Johnson '19 was honored by The Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Asheville and Buncombe County with a college scholarship. The theme of the MLK Scholarship & Youth Leadership Award Ceremony was "Keeping Hope in Challenging Times," and Navante was among five WNC seniors honored.

Jacob Allen '19 officially pledged to the school on Tuesday, April 30, at a ceremony on the campus of Carolina Day School, signing his national letter of intent with the Senators. The Senators are in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and compete in the Mountain East Conference.

Carolina Day School is pleased to share a new, easier, and more secure way to manage CDS student health records. The school is partnering with Magnus Health, a web-based system that enables parents, the school nurse, the athletic trainer, and other designated school personnel to have secure access to student health records as well as the ability to make timely updates.

Carolina Day School's Odyssey of the Mind (OotM) team had a great showing at the 2019 state finals this weekend at East Carolina University in Greenville, earning a third-place finish in their division. The CDS team is comprised of Grade 5 students Amelia Lopez, Ellie Dukowicz, Harriet Esselstyn, Jackson Israel, Mac Copenhaver, Owen Smith, and Samantha Schenker. Coaches for the team are Ian Riddell and Shana Lopez.

The Asheville Mini-Maker Faire was held on Saturday, April 6, on the campus of UNCA and was an opportunity for makers (crafters, inventors, programmers and more) to share their ideas and gain inspiration from one another. The Carolina Day School brought our wind tunnel with us and encouraged some of the youngest attendees to design and build something out of recycled materials.

Carolina Day School seniors D'Angelo Elliott and Devin Elliott were recently chosen as members of the 2018-19 Carolinas Athletic Association All-Conference Boys Basketball Team. Carolina Day School seniors D'Angelo Elliott and Devin Elliott were recently chosen as members of the 2018-19 Carolinas Athletic Association All-Conference Boys Basketball Team. The Elliott brothers were two of ten young men selected from throughout the conference for this honor. Additionally, it was announced that D'Angelo Elliott has been chosen to represent the West team and Carolina Day School in the annual North Carolina Private School All-Star Game to be held in Charlotte on Saturday, March 2.

Carolina Day School (CDS) announced that, after a national search, Dr. John Daves will become the new principal of its upper school for grades 9-12. Daves, who will join CDS on July 1, 2019, succeeds Peggy Daniels, retiring at the end of the 2018-19 academic year after 34 years in education.

Carolina Day alumna Maggie Hilderbran '15 is one of 40 U.S. students to receive a 2019 Marshall Scholarship, and is one of only 32 recipients of the Two Year Marshall Scholarship. Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. Hilderbran was selected from more than 1,000 other applicants in the nation.

Carolina Day School senior Adelaide Lammers has signed to row at Notre Dame next year. Adelaide will be the first Asheville Youth Rowing Association alum to attend and row at Notre Dame. The Wildcats held a signing ceremony on Wednesday, November 28, to celebrate the achievement.

The Theater Department at Carolina Day School has much to celebrate, as they bring home honors from both the 2018 NCTC High School Play Festival, held at Gardner Webb University on November 2–3, 2018, and from the NCTC State High School Play Festival held at Greensboro College on November 15-16, 2018. Brutal course conditions in Hendersonville couldn't stop the Carolina Day girls cross country team from taking home the NCISAA title on Friday, October 26, 2018. This win wrapped up the girls team's fifth consecutive state championship, and the Wildcat's 15th NCISAA victory in the last 25 years.

On Thursday, April 26, Carolina Day upper school students participated in Arts Day workshops led by their peers and upper school faculty. With Art Workshops in the morning, a Gallery Opening at lunch, and a Showcase of Talent in the afternoon, Upper School Arts Day is a day in which students can explore new talents and push themselves artistically while gaining new skills.

For the past decade, Lycée Notre Dame in Dijon and Carolina Day School have fostered an exchange program between the two schools. On odd years, Carolina Day School students go to France, and on even years, the French students come here. Recently, the French students visited Carolina Day, this being the tenth year of the exchange program—the year in which the Lycée Notre Dame students come to Asheville.

Last year, Carolina Day School students worked with Elisha Mitchell Audubon Society and Wilde Acre Landscape to create a bird and pollinator-friendly garden. CDS Lower School Assistant Principal Peter Sullivan shared the story of how this garden has beautified the Carolina Day School campus and has transformed the space into an outdoor classroom, offering cross-curricular opportunities for learning.

This winter, after just over three years of practice, Solomon garnered honors at the National Field Archery Association's (NFAA) annual competition in Las Vegas and the Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) State Championship held in Tennessee. Solomon took 6th place in Young Adult Male Recurve at the Vegas Shoot in February and 1st place-Guest, Cadet Male Recurve, in the USA Archery/JOAD TN State Championship on January 20, 2018.

Carolina Day School Lower School Technology Coordinator Libby Roland has been named Odyssey of the Mind Coach of the Year for the Western Region. The Odyssey of the Mind (OotM) is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college.

On Saturday, February 24, 2018, the CDS girls' basketball team beat Asheville Christian Academy, 46-37, to win their eighth consecutive NCISAA 2A state championship, to continue a winning streak that continues to be the best in WNC girls' basketball history. This title gives Carolina Day its 10th in program history—the first WNC girls basketball team to ever reach double-digit championships.

Carolina Day School senior Chris Champ has been recognized as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. Chris is now in the running for a National Merit Scholarship award.
