Study Support Course Descriptions

(Grade 9)
This course employs the Orton-Gillingham approach to develop English vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, and writing skills. The same approach is used to prepare students for future study in Spanish or French.  Students establish a solid foundation for pronunciation and spelling and learn important grammatical differences between English and the target language. Linguistics is open only to students with a documented specific learning difference and fulfills one modern language credit for qualifying students.

As the semester progresses, the following skills are introduced and reinforced to assist students in reaching their goals: managing time and materials, note-taking, reading comprehension strategies, planning for long-term assignments, test preparation, and self-advocacy. This course  is open only to students with a documented learning difference.
