Upper School (9-12) Curriculum

Upper School is the bridge to college and beyond, both a culmination of the Carolina Day School experience and a gateway to the next phase of our students’ journeys. We are a college preparatory school with an enviable record of success. Our graduates routinely apply to very selective colleges, and most are accepted at their top choices.

We don’t "teach for the test." Our students are expected to perform well on tests, including the SATs – which is always in the back of our minds, but never in the forefront of our teaching. The Upper School program consists of required courses in the major academic areas: English, math, science, world language, and history.

In addition, all students complete courses in fine arts, physical education, and public speaking. Students take six academic courses per semester; highly motivated students may choose to take seven. We currently offer 14 Advanced Placement courses through which students may earn college credit or advanced standing in college courses.
