The year is 1929. Asheville’s native son, Thomas Wolfe, just published his first book, which launches him into international fame. Al Capone and Bugs Moran are household names, and the stock market is reaching heights never before seen. It is the Prohibition Era, and with it comes the birth of the Speakeasy...
In 2017, The Venue downtown became "Door 1345," a CDS speakeasy! We hosted silent and live auctions at a Gala on April 8. VIP admission started at 6:30 p.m. and general admission at 7:30 p.m. There was also a silent auction at the family-friendly Club Willy Temperance Party on April 6 from 5-7:30 p.m in the Alumni Gym and Love Hall Courtyard. In the last few years, our gala events were organized using an individual ticket admission process. In addition to individual and VIP ticket sales, we offered Patron Sponsorships which included name recognition and premier reserved seating for 10.
And back by popular demand - whether or not you could attend either event - everyone had the opportunity to participate in a Tuition Raffle!
