Much of Carolina Day School’s strength can be credited to the leadership of our board. Our volunteer trustees, which includes parents of current students, parents of alumni, alumni, and community leaders from diverse industry segments, have the credentials, expertise, and qualities needed to chart the direction of the school and ensure its continued success.

Born and raised in Lima Peru, Monica and her family moved to the U.S. (Maryland) when she was 16. She completed high school and college and worked for the Riggs National Bank in the Commercial Real Estate Department. In 1995, Monica moved to St. Thomas, USVI. During her 11 years in the Caribbean, Monica worked for the Chase Manhattan Bank and Globalvest, LLC plus developed and taught the inaugural Spanish curriculum for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders at Antilles private school. She also worked part-time as a bookkeeper for a construction company. Enamored with the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and opportunities, Monica, her husband Mark and son Ryan (CDS Alumni ‘17) moved to Asheville in 2006. Monica found a job as the Hispanic Community Coordinator for Asheville City Schools and worked as an interpreter for Buncombe County Schools, Eliada Homes, & Family Preservation Services. Now, Monica works full time as the Hispanic Liaison for Asheville Buncombe County Youth Soccer Association & the Highland Football Club (ABYSA/HFC.) She also developed and teaches the After School Spanish program at Fairview Elementary School.

Jennifer holds a BA in Economics from UNC-Chapel Hill, 1987. She and her husband Richard are the parents of two CDS graduates, Carson ‘ 15 and Spencer ’17. Jennifer has held a variety of volunteer positions at CDS including 2009 Auction Chair, CDS Annual Fund grade representative, and CDS Trustee 2012-2014, before becoming Associate Director of Advancement. Community Service – Eblen Board, Health Adventure Board, Vestry at Trinity Episcopal Church, Governor’s Western Residence Board, Genesis Alliance member, NC Advisory Committee on Cancer Coordination, and Open Doors of Asheville.
Member of Strategic Planning, Buildings and Grounds and Advancement committees • Education from Whitby School, Greenwich Academy, the Centre International de Valbonne in France and Princeton University, where she graduated with a BA in history • In addition to being involved in numerous charities in CT and NY, Heather previously served on the Board of Directors of St. Joseph’s School, an inner-city parochial school in Harlem, New York where she worked after graduating • More recently she and her husband, Jim, spent two years living aboard their traditional wooden sailboat with their two young daughters, cruising from Maine to the Caribbean and back to offer their kids a different life experience and a broad worldview. • They moved to Asheville in 2014 and are involved in small-scale private equity, small business consulting, and real estate projects. Their daughters are Scarlet and River ’26.

Dennis moved to Asheville 4 years ago with his wife of 20 years Preston (formerly Grimes) Davitt. His son is currently in the 4th grade at the Key School and his daughter is a senior at The Asheville School. Preston attended St. Genevieve through 8th grade. Dennis is currently living in Kenilworth and can occasionally be found on his bicycle riding to his satellite office in downtown Asheville. While attending and graduating the Florida Institute of Technology Dennis was captain of the National Championship crew team. Dennis Davitt is currently Partner, Harvest Volatility Management. Dennis has traded derivatives for the past 30 years, trading his way from the exchange floors of Chicago to the trading desks of New York. Dennis has been a guest writer for the popular volatility column “Strike Price” in Barron’s, and has often been invited to provide market color and option commentary on television shows such as CNBC.
Member of Committee on Trustees and Buildings and Grounds • Born and raised in Asheville • Appalachian State University graduate • Married for over 25 years to Greg Goosmann (also an Asheville native) who has a local law practice specializing in transactional real estate work • Mother of George ’14, who is at UNC-Chapel Hill; Will, who attended CDS from Pre-K through Grade 7 and is now a rising senior at Christ School; and Catherine ’14, who is attending Key School • Works as a Stylist/Independent Sales Consultant for Worth New York, a women's apparel company based in NYC • Enjoys playing tennis, reading and cooking • Has been a proud member of the CDS community since 2000
Scott Groce is a native of Asheville and attended Asheville Country Day School/Carolina Day School from the 1st grade through his graduation in 1995. Scott was a full-time staff member at CDS from 1996-2004, serving as an assistant athletic director, sports information director and coached seven different sports during that period of time. At the end of the 2004 school year, Scott left to join his family business, Groce Funeral Home, where he currently serves as manager of their Lake Julian location in Arden. Scott returned to campus to coach basketball from 2008-2013. He and his wife, Jennifer have three children, Mary Carter (CDS '2025), William (Key School/CDS '2027) and Elizabeth, who was born in November of 2016. They reside in Mills River.
Lakesha is native of Asheville and has been employed with Mission Health for 23 years. She serves as the Director for Diversity, Inclusion and Health Equity. Lakesha holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of North Carolina at Asheville, a post-graduate certificate in Innovation Management from Western Carolina University and is a Certified Diversity Professional through the Institute for Diversity. She serves on the boards of United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, UNC Asheville Foundation, and Delta House Life Enrichment Center, and as an advisory member to the UNC Asheville Center for Diversity Education and the United Way Middle School Success Resource Team. She is past chair of the WNC Diversity Engagement Coalition. Sports are her love and she connects that love by volunteering as a mentor to a UNC Asheville student-athlete. Lakesha is married to Raymond Sr. and is mom to Taylor, 25 and Raymond Jr., 16.

Chair of Committee on Trustees and member of Strategic Planning committee • Serves as Lower School VP to Parent Council • Raised in Asheville, North Carolina and has lived in the area since 1982 • A 1992 graduate of Carolina Day School, Swati earned her B.A. degree from Davidson College, and her M.P.H. from Emory University • Worked for two years for Lucent Technologies in Chicago, after which she and her husband, Himanshu Karvir, decided to move back to Asheville in 2003 and join the family business of hospitality. • Parent to son Aakash ’26 and daughter Janaki ’28
Chair of Strategic Planning committee and member of Committee on Trustees • Executive Director of OpenDoors and has been involved with the organization since its inception in 2006 • Her passion is providing opportunities for all children so that they may meet their potential and become inspired learners • Bachelor degrees in sociology and mass communications from the University of Vermont, pursuing her MBA • Her husband, Scott, in an Emergency Room physician, and they have three children: James (currently studying at the United States Naval Academy), Ollie (at Asheville High School), and Nick (grade 6 at Key School).

Member of Finance committee and Committee on Trustees • John and Ashley Stanier have been living Asheville since 2003 • Managing Director with Carolina Financial Group since 2004 • Formerly the Managing Director with Merrill Lynch in London, spending nearly 10 years in London as a banker with both Merrill Lynch and JP Morgan Chase • John began his career as Corporate Finance Analyst with Chase Manhattan Bank in New York • Graduated from Georgetown University in 1987 with a BS/BA in Finance • Active with local charities and is a Board Member of the Economic Development Coalition of Asheville-Buncombe County • Previously a Board Member and Treasurer of the Friends of Western North Carolina Nature Center • John’s wife Ashley was raised in Asheville and attended elementary school at Carolina Country Day • They have three children all of whom have attended Carolina Day, including daughter Sydney ’15 and son Nicholas ’21
