Dear CDS Community,
This afternoon in a media briefing, Governor Roy Cooper announced new guidelines for how all North Carolinians can take part in lessening the effects of the coronavirus.
Considering this as well as the actions taken by Buncombe County, Asheville, and North Carolina to declare a state of emergency, we have made some common sense decisions regarding our upcoming school calendar.
While CDS is not putting into place our remote learning plan at this time, we feel it important to revise our school community calendar as an additional measure to help keep us all safe and healthy.
We are not prepared to make decisions about school activities or events scheduled to occur after spring break. However, we have taken a careful look at the CDS calendar of community events for tomorrow through next week.
Beginning Friday, March 13, the following will either be cancelled or, where possible, postponed until after spring break:
--Off-campus field and community service trips --Off-campus club activities --You Belong Supper --Middle and Key Middle School dance --Key Middle School Talents Showcase --Upper School play --Athletic competitions* --Divisional and/or all-school student assemblies
*The North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) has suspended all spring sports indefinitely. Suspension of interscholastic games, scrimmages and/or contests begins Friday, March 13, and will continue until further notice. CDS will suspend practices and consider resuming them after spring break.
While we are deeply disappointed to have to cancel or reschedule important and special community events, we take seriously our responsibility to respond proactively to the current situation. We will keep you informed of any additional changes.
With gratitude for your continued partnership,
Peggy Asheville's co-ed independent day school, where inclusive community, inspired teaching, and innovative program create a journey of excellence for each student. 1345 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC 28803 | 828-274-0757 | carolinaday.org |
