We sent this message out with some extra text. The partial sentence, highlighted below, was not meant to be included — we address this in the second paragraph. We apologize for any confusion and thank you for your patience and understanding. Dear CDS Community,
We continue to monitor and assess the coronavirus situation, as well as prepare for the possibility of off-campus learning. The Carolina Day remote learning plan is ready for implementation if and when it becomes necessary.
This morning, we made the decision to have students off campus tomorrow, Friday, March 13, so that we may have a teacher workday. During this time, we will work together to finalize details for remote learning technologies and pedagogy. This replaces the professional development day previously scheduled for Monday, April 13. If any after-school activities for tomorrow should need to be cancelled or postponed, you will be notified as soon as possible.
We recognize that this decision will present a challenge for some families. Given the daily and sometimes hourly changes in the coronavirus situation, we feel it is prudent to bring the faculty together in its entirety before the weekend. No decision regarding a transition to remote learning has been made at this time.
As a reminder, we ask you to take the following steps today if you have not done so:
1. Complete the CDS spring break travel questionnaire. 2. Complete the CDS technology survey. LS/KLS Parent Technology Survey (to be filled out by a parent) MS/KMS/US Student Technology Survey (to be filled out by the student) 3. Refer to the CDS resource page for copies of school coronavirus communications. 4. Remember that we are asking students to be "backpack ready" every day in the event of a transition to remote learning.
I will keep you updated as we progress through the next few days and weeks should our operations need to be further adjusted. The nuts and bolts of our remote learning plan and its implementation will be sent to you soon. I appreciate so much your partnership and flexibility in this uncertain and disruptive time.
Warmly, Peggy Asheville's co-ed independent day school, where inclusive community, inspired teaching, and innovative program create a journey of excellence for each student. 1345 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC 28803 | 828-274-0757 | carolinaday.org |
