Carolina Day Announces Basketball Coaches Michael Karp, an experienced teacher, and coach will serve as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Carolina Day School. He teaches Grade 7 math and reading at Key School at Carolina Day, and served as the school's JV Boys Basketball coach in the 2018-19 school year for a record of 17 wins and 3 losses.
Before moving to Asheville to teach at CDS a year ago, Coach Karp was a high school and middle school math teacher at Seacrest Country Day School in Naples, Florida. During his time at Seacrest, he held the position of head coach for basketball, baseball, and golf. He spent two years on the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) circuit as a head coach of Florida Southwest Elite and Naples United Teams.
Tyler Howard will continue to serve as a coach at Carolina Day in his new role as Associate Head Boys Basketball Coach. Howard has a wealth of basketball knowledge and a thorough understanding of the basketball landscape in western North Carolina. Howard, an Asheville native, attended the University of North Carolina Asheville, then went on to receive his MBA at Liberty University.
Howard served as a Boys Varsity Assistant Coach for the Wildcats last season. Prior to his arrival at Carolina Day, Howard coached at Veritas Christian Academy, serving as Junior Varsity Head Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach, for the 2014-15 season. GIRLS BASKETBALL In girls basketball, Carolina Day plans to compete at the JV level for the 2019-2020 season, preparing for varsity play in 2020-2021. To help lead this effort, Carolina Day announces the following selection: Andy Lammers, CDS faculty member, coach, and parent, has been named the new Head Girls Basketball Coach. Lammers' basketball coaching experience ranges from the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) to club basketball, and he has served as the CDS middle school girls basketball coach for 14 years.
In the classroom, Lammers' work represents two decades of delivering excellence in teaching and learning. He has held numerous academic leadership roles, including Grade 8 science and math department chair and—most recently—Grade 10 dean, working with students to ensure their academic journey will guide them successfully into the 21st century. Lammers will continue his faculty and dean roles. "We are excited about these coaching selections," said Athletic Director Steve Henry. "I am confident they will work tirelessly on behalf of our Wildcat student-athletes and our school community." CarolinaDay.org/PlaySmarter |
