DeAngelo Cano-Lopez Athletic Signing 24

Carolina Day School is thrilled to announce that DeAngelo Cano-Lopez ’24 has officially committed to play soccer at the collegiate level at Concord University in Athens, West Virginia. The signing ceremony took place Tuesday, May 28, 2024, with DeAngelo's friends, family, coaches, and teammates in attendance to celebrate.

The end of the 2023-24 school year is finally here, and campus is bustling with a parade of ceremonies to mark this momentous shift. This morning, our Upper School began the campus-wide celebrations with this year's Upper School Academic Awards Ceremony to recognize the students and faculty who have made significant contributions to both their school and to their own personal development. 

CDS Announces Upper School Renovation and Campus Improvement Project

Thanks to the generous support of two families, CDS will begin a major capital construction project in June 2024. This project is part of a three-phase plan to enhance academic facilities at CDS, with this first phase to include a complete redesign of the Upper School's exterior, front entrance, and lobby, as well as improvements to campus entrance roads, traffic flow, and parking. 

At the OM State competition, the 5th Grade Circle Team progresses to World Finals

After securing first place at the Odyssey of the Mind (OM) regional competitions on February 24th at McDowell High School, all five CDS teams proceeded to compete at the State level at Wingate University on Saturday, March 23rd. Remarkably, one CDS team clinched the top spot at State, earning them a spot in the 2024 World Finals, scheduled to take place from May 21st to May 24th at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

Wednesday, February 7 was the 38th annual National Women and Girls in Sports Day. To celebrate, Carolina Day School hosted a special luncheon for Middle and Upper School female athletes which took place in the Nash Athletic Center. Athletes from a wide variety of teams gathered to support one another in their disciplines, listen to each other's stories, and hear Upper School speakers Caroline Barton, Maia Kiis, and Ellie Dukowicz as well as special guest speaker Donnae Farrington.

As the winter athletic season draws to a close, the Carolina Day Wildcats have much to celebrate and reflect upon. With some standout performances, challenges overcome, and camaraderie built, the Wildcats showcased their determination and sportsmanship all season long. Let's take a closer look at their achievements through the eyes of our coaches.

Susannah Owen '24 Morehead-Cain Scholar

The morning Carolina Day School senior Susannah Owen would find out if she had been awarded a UNC Chapel Hill Morehead-Cain Scholarship, she woke up with a plan. She wouldn’t find out the news until 5 p.m. that evening and, no matter the results, she wanted to enjoy her day. She started with a run before getting her nails done in the color Tarheel Blue as a reminder that she had already been accepted to Chapel Hill, its Honors College, and its Accelerated Research program. No matter what happened, she told herself, she had a lot to celebrate.
