We are thrilled to celebrate Carolina Day School's very own Jan Brabham, a dedicated sixth-grade teacher, and her incredible journey featured in Wofford Today. Jan recently returned to Lesotho, where she first taught as a Peace Corps volunteer in 1988. Accompanied by her son, CDS alumnus Keefe Kalil '24, their visit became a powerful moment of connection and service.
CDS recently celebrated a heartwarming milestone as its Pre-K students and Monarch Seniors participated in the 30th annual Monarch Migration, a beloved tradition and the cornerstone project of the school’s Pre-K program. Originally planned for earlier in the fall, the anniversary event was postponed due to the recent hurricane. Despite the delay, excitement filled the air as the entire school community eagerly gathered to mark three decades of this meaningful experience.

Guided by the CDS core belief to "embrace challenges and persevere," our Wildcats remained determined, achieving remarkable successes and inspiring our community with their dedication and tenacity. Carolina Day School is pleased to announce that David Hertzinger will continue serving as the Interim Upper School Principal through the 2025-26 school year, extending his initial appointment by an additional year.
In the wake of the Hurricane Helene disaster that left many in the Greater Asheville area struggling, Carolina Day School mobilized swiftly to support the community's recovery. Led by a group of dedicated CDS staff and in partnership with the Town of Biltmore Forest, the City of Asheville, and Buncombe County, the school launched a two-week initiative to host an essential item distribution site, helping approximately 2,000 affected families with the help of over 300 volunteers.
CDS will remain closed through Oct. 14 (Fall Break). By Wed. Oct. 9, families will receive an update regarding our ability to reopen Oct. 15. The priority now is ensuring everyone's safety.
Dr. Diane Milner, Principal of the Key School has announced her decision to retire at the end of the 2024-25 academic year. This decision marks the conclusion of a remarkable tenure at Carolina Day School, where she has served since founding Key School in 1997 with just two students.

Congratulations to CDS student Zoe Hewitt '26, who was recently featured with WLOS ABC 13 for her project Kennel Kindness. Through Kennel Kindness, Hewitt works with Horizons at Carolina Day mentoring students through the process of making dog treats, toys, blankets, and adoption pamphlets for each dog at Brother Wolf Animal Rescue.
Earlier this summer, Carolina Day student Owen Sherman ’28 was afforded the opportunity to race with other junior cyclists in the International Cycling Union (UCI) through USA Cycling in Galicia Spain where he placed third among scores of competitive international junior cyclists.

Carolina Day School is thrilled to announce that DeAngelo Cano-Lopez ’24 has officially committed to play soccer at the collegiate level at Concord University in Athens, West Virginia. The signing ceremony took place Tuesday, May 28, 2024, with DeAngelo's friends, family, coaches, and teammates in attendance to celebrate.
The end of the 2023-24 school year is finally here, and campus is bustling with a parade of ceremonies to mark this momentous shift. This morning, our Upper School began the campus-wide celebrations with this year's Upper School Academic Awards Ceremony to recognize the students and faculty who have made significant contributions to both their school and to their own personal development.
Thanks to the generous support of two families, CDS will begin a major capital construction project in June 2024. This project is part of a three-phase plan to enhance academic facilities at CDS, with this first phase to include a complete redesign of the Upper School's exterior, front entrance, and lobby, as well as improvements to campus entrance roads, traffic flow, and parking.
The Mountain Amateur Athletic Club has announced the finalists for the WNC Sports Awards Banquet, which honors Western North Carolina's best high school athletes. Among the esteemed finalists are Caroline Barton '25, Louisa Koon '24, and Manning Stewart '24 from Caroline Day School.
