Carolina Day School presented this year’s Upper School musical “Family Portrait” on April 15–17, a performance created, written and performed by Carolina Day middle and upper school students. Additionally, for the first time in Carolina Day’s history, the spring musical was held outdoors—a move that lent a unique and appealing atmosphere and ensured that the performance met this spring's pandemic safety considerations.

Carolina Day Upper School students in the Society of Literature, Art, Music, and Media (SLAMM), have been honored with a REALM Superior distinction for their 2019-20 Literary & Arts Magazine, Labyrinthine.

Caroline Koon '22 earned third place in Varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Stephen Davis Invitational at Ardrey Kell on Saturday, February 27, 2021.

On February 24 in North Carolina, anyone working in child care or in pre-K to 12th grade schools became eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. Several teachers at Carolina Day shared their excitement and relief at being eligible for the vaccine after a challenging year of on-campus and hybrid learning during the pandemic.

At Carolina Day, two Upper School teachers have developed a blended bioethics and humanities course that offers juniors and seniors an opportunity to explore the relationship between scientific engagement and social responsibility. The course is called Biosocial Ethics and Motives, or “BEAM” for short.

Carolina Day School congratulates the students whose works were selected from among thousands entered into the Southeast Regional division of the Scholastic Writing Awards.

In commemoration of the living legacy of Dr. King, CDS will host our annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration with activities in each of our divisions. Carolina Day School is also a proud sponsor of the 40th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration organized by the MLK Association of Asheville & Buncombe County.

Three CDS students were recognized in this year's WNC Regional Scholastic Art Awards, sponsored by Asheville Art Museum. Students in grades 7–12 from across our region submit work for this highly competitive, juried competition.

Caroline Koon '22 won the championship in Varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Asheville High School Cougar Classic speech and debate tournament on Saturday, November 21.  

Music teacher Stacy Montana, who teaches LS and KLS students, found a creative and meaningful solution to the safety considerations that come with singing—this year, Montana is leading students in an American Sign Language (ASL) song rendition. 

The Theatre Department at Carolina Day School is celebrating their participation in the 2020 NCTC High School Play Festival: Virtual Showcase. The theatre program, led by David Dvorscak, is presenting “Time Enough” in the Showcase. This year, theatre arts educators and students rose to the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic and presented their work virtually.
