Swimming Highlights

Varsity Swimming – Middle School Meet

Fri, Jan. 10 – CDS vs Providence Day and Cannon School

15 Middle Schoolers from Carolina Day competed against Providence Day and Cannon School. Louisa Koon was our only first-place swim in 50 Breast with a time of 36.28. She also placed second in the 100 IM, taking (-13.17) off her previous time. Our only other second-place finish was Charlie Pommerer in 200 Free. He shaved (-13.98) off his previous time. This was one of the most exciting races of the meet, as he finished:31/100 of a second in front of a Cannon Day swimmer. Charlie would pull ahead on the even number lengths, and the swimmer would get closer to the odd lengths. After 8 lengths we came out on top. Gibby Curwen finished in fourth place in this race. For the girls in the 200 Free Audrey Alexander finished in third place. We had a strong showing in the Boys IM as Ryan Copenhaver finished third with a solid swim taking (-5.40) off his previous time. Dale Garner finished 5th in the IM. We had 9 swimmers competing in events #7 & #8. Our highest finish in both of these events was 5th place. Sally Quarrier finished in 5th and took (-0.98) seconds off her time. Maia Kiiss finished in 13th place, putting her in the middle of the event but took an impressive (-3.69) seconds. As one of the younger swimmers at this meet, this is quite notable. Nathan Flaherty and Robbie Wade finished in 5th and 6th place. Robbie dropped (-1.28) seconds from his previous best. Anthony Nolletti swam this event as well, and it was his first-ever swim race experience. It is always exciting to see a new swimmer join in the competition. In Event #9 and #10, 50 Fly we placed well. Hazel Chernosky finished in 3rd place. Ryan Copenhaver finished in 4th place. Events #11 and #12, 100 Free had Dale Garner and Brayden Wilson each taking (-3.35) seconds and (-2.31) seconds off their previous times. Event #13 and #14, 50 Back had Charlie Pommerer finishing in 5th place, but taking (-12.67) seconds off his previous time. Miai Kiiss was our top finisher in 10th place. Event #15 and #16, 50 Breast was the only event we won a first place. Louisa Koon swam an impressive 36.28. Her closest competitor was over 3.0 seconds behind.  Sally Quarrier finished in fourth dropping (-2.78) seconds. Another huge improvement in this event was Addison Copenhaver. She dropped (-5.37) seconds. For the boys, Nathan Flaherty and Robbie Wade placed 6th and 8th respectively. Great job everyone!  —Coach Kathy Rabenold
