Because speaking and critical listening are crucial skills for our modern democratic society, Carolina Day School offers a robust program of Speech and Debate courses, including Competitive Speech and Debate. In the Competitive Speech and Debate class, students select events based on individual interests, and, through collaboration with the teacher, their work culminates in tournament participation. Each student works towards improving communication skills (verbal and nonverbal), self-confidence, self-awareness, analytical skills, creativity, and collaborative skills. The Competitive Speech and Debate class is offered in both the fall and spring semesters. Carolina Day also offers Advanced Competitive Speech and Debate and Honors Competitive Speech and Debate.
