All six CDS Odyssey of the Mind teams went to State; one CDS team advances to World finals.

Having placed first at the Odyssey of the Mind (OM) regional competitions on April 12 at McDowell High School, all six CDS teams competed at the State level at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee on Saturday, April 2. One CDS team placed first at State, qualifying them to advance to the World Finals which takes place May 25-28 at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. This year’s CDS participation in OM is the biggest (by far) of any year with six CDS teams participating, and students have been busy working after school and on weekends to prepare for competition. We'd like to extend a huge thank you to Ian Riddell and to the many staff, parent coaches and volunteers who have made this year’s Odyssey of the Mind possible for our Wildcats.

You might be wondering, "What is Odyssey of the Mind?" OM is a national competition that supports and rewards creative thinking in young people. Each team has two obligations for competition: 1) they need to perform their long-term problem (a short play that students have written and produced that solves or addresses several small challenges posed by), and 2) they need to take part in a Spontaneous Challenge. Regionals offered our teams the chance to debut their long-term problems for the judges; then polish these plays in preparation for the state competition.
