Since 2014, Carolina Day School students have raised funds and worked on building sites to sponsor an Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity home every two years. Due to the pandemic, the 2020 student build was postponed to 2021. This year’s Student Build—a home for a family of seven—is sponsored by six local schools: Carolina Day, Asheville Christian Academy, Christ School, The Franklin School of Innovation, The Asheville School, and Nesbitt Discovery Academy. Students from these six schools have been raising the funds to build this home and will soon begin construction.
Beginning last spring, Upper School students at Carolina Day have been fundraising through the sale of donuts and other food items, and will be selling pizza and soda at Homecoming on October 15th. CDS students and faculty members will also be working on the construction site in New Heights, a multi-generational neighborhood off of Old Haywood Rd. CDS has five build days scheduled: October 20, November 3, January 12, January 26, and February 9. Each day, six students (ages 16 and older) will be at the site with two CDS faculty member supervisors.
We look forward to sharing more updates on the progress of the Habitat Student Build!
