CDS Announces New Head Boys Basketball Coach

Carolina Day School’s Director of Athletics Tauni Butterfield recently announced the appointment of Paul Capodanno as the Wildcats new head coach for the varsity boys basketball team. "Coach Cap," as he is known, joined Carolina Day for the 2022-2023 school year and also oversees the physical education program for the Lower School grades at CDS.

Capodanno brings extensive basketball coaching experience to the school. Raised by a family of Hall of Fame coaches and educators, he played college basketball at the Division III level, and he has coached boys basketball at the varsity and JV levels at independent schools such as Christ School (Asheville, NC), Woodlawn School (Davidson, NC), Cape Fear Academy (Wilmington, NC), and The John Carroll School (Bel Air, MD). He has experience coaching AAU basketball teams, and he led teams that competed at the national level. Over the years, he has helped many of his players move on to compete at the collegiate level in Divisions I, II, and III.

Capodanno is a graduate of Becker College in Massachusetts where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Administration.

"We are enthusiastic to have Coach Cap on board," said Butterfield. "He brings along a wealth of knowledge, experience, and success to Carolina Day School to give our student-athletes an experience they rightfully deserve. I am excited for our school, and I am confident Coach Cap will continue to elevate our Wildcats basketball program for many years.”

After accepting the position as Wildcats' new boys head basketball coach, Capodanno was asked his thoughts on his new role:  "To say that I'm excited to join the Carolina Day School community would be an understatement. Carolina Day is known for excellence, and I'm confident that with committed, focused student-athletes, and a great deal of hard work, CDS basketball will find its share of success. I'm anxious to get started."

Will Lewis will be joining the boys varsity team as Assistant Head Coach. "Coach Will" played basketball at Montreat College and brings eight years of experience coaching both NCAA Division III college basketball and Amateur Athletic Union basketball teams.

Welcome Coach Cap and Coach Will!
