Carolina Day is pleased to announce that a Wildcat student-athlete and team has received notification from the Mountain Amateur Athletic Club, the area’s largest and most prestigious athletic organization, that they will be considered for awards on August 15, 2021 at the 59th WNC Sports Awards Banquet. The awards for which they are considered are:
- Erin Hovendon '22, Northwestern Mutual Division II Female Athlete - Olympic Sport (multi-sports)
- 2021 Girls Cross Country Team, Mills Manufacturing Division II Female Team - Olympic Sport)
More than 140 local high-school athletes and teams will be honored at the banquet. Conducted by the Mountain Amateur Athletic Club, the banquet will recognize finalists and award winners in 24 categories and will present 17 scholarships of $1,500 each through the John & Darlene McNabb Charitable Foundation.
The MAAC will also honor the 2020 award winners with plaques. Last year's banquet was canceled due to the pandemic but the MACC selected finalists and winners for 24 awards.
The 2020 Carolina Day School winners were:
- 2020 Carolina Day Girls Cross Country Team, Mills Manufacturing Division II Female Team in an Olympic Sport Award. Coaches Mark Driscoll and Brian Rannie led the Wildcats to their sixth consecutive state title, finishing 49 points ahead of the second-place squad.
- Olivia Sutter '20, Apollo Flame Division II Female Athlete of the Year Award. A Cornell commit, Sutter was named to the Citizen-Times All-Western teams in cross country, swimming and track.
