Get to know Alli King:

In what ways can you teach/engage children at CDS that you couldn’t at other schools?

As someone who attended both public and independent schools, I know that the community you’re able to build in a PreK-12 environment is extremely beneficial for student learning and engagement. I also love the CDS campus, where I will be able to teach outside as much as I’d like! Having such a beautiful and peaceful campus is a precious resource.

What books and authors inspire you, your curriculum, and your classroom? Why?

Reading is one of my passions, and it’s hard to narrow this question down! Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper is definitely a stand out—it not only is a great lesson in not making assumptions about others, but also the impact teachers can have on student engagement and confidence. Other authors include R.J. Palacio, Nic Stone, and Mark Oshiro.

How would you describe your approach to your job in 10 words or less?

Grace, Flexibility, Exploration, Fun, and High Expectations.
