Cara Bledsoe is the Admission Associate and has been at CDS since 2021. Cara joined CDS after ten years as Director of Admissions, Marketing, and Communications at Follow the Child Montessori School in Raleigh, NC. Prior to her shift to school administration, Cara was a writer for Scholastic Classroom Magazines, Livestrong.com, EverydayHealth.com, ParentSociety.com, and more. She spent three years on the Board of Directors for The Del Ray Montessori School in Alexandria, VA. Cara has been an independent school parent since 2011 and a CDS parent since 2021; her son, Evan, is a proud Class of 2027 Wildcat.

What books and authors inspire you? Why? 

"I wrote for children for many years and still enjoy reading excellent middle-grade and Young Adult books. I think it’s helpful for me as an adult to remember in a more visceral way what it feels like to be a child. Favorite authors in those genres include Cynthia Voight, Cornelia Funke, Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, and Ann M. Martin who wrote The Baby-Sitters Club series, A Corner of the Universe, and many more, and was a writing mentor to me when I worked for Scholastic."

What personal passion brings balance to your life?

"I enjoy singing (mostly just around the house these days) and am also a voracious reader with an affinity for 'getting lost' in used and/or independent bookstores. I love my family (including two rescue dogs), and any activity we do together brings balance to my life."
