Steve Henry is the Associate Head of School for Carolina Day. He joined CDS in 2002 and has held many roles including Director of Athletics and Director of Strategic Initiatives. He has an M.S. in Sports Management from Western Carolina University., a B.A. in Political Science from Guilford College, and has received a Professional Certificate in School Leadership and Management from Harvard University Business School and the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Steve is an alum of Asheville Country Day '86 and has two children currently attending CDS.

In what ways can you teach/engage children at CDS that you couldn't at other schools? “We really work hard to tear down traditional barriers.”
 
What do you like most about your job at CDS? “I value the fact we have kids of all ages on campus.”
 
In your opinion, how does the CDS community inspire students to be courageous and curious, wonder about things that they don’t understand, try new things, and develop individual passions? “I return to the idea of breaking down traditional structures to free creativity and learning. For me, that’s the heart of what we work to do every day.”
 
What books and authors inspire you? “I migrate from trade fiction to the latest thought-leaders on a wide variety of issues. I especially have been moved by the work of Richard Ford and Charles Wright.”
 
How would you describe yourself and/or your approach to your job in 10 words or less? “I work to understand.”
 
What personal passion brings balance to your life? “Besides wrangling my kids, I love the feeling of exhaustion after a hard workout.”
