Get to know Sara Quesinberry:

In what ways can you teach/engage children at CDS that you couldn't at other schools? “One unique aspect of the Key School at CDS is the extremely low ratio of students:teachers. This allows me to know each of my students as the unique individuals that they are and affords me the opportunity to tailor lessons to their individual strengths and needs.”

What do you like most about your job at CDS? “I love the fact that I actually get to connect with students and their families. I build relationships because it’s such a small, connected campus. I also work with them most amazing and inspiring coworkers!”

In your opinion, how does the CDS community inspire students to be courageous and curious, wonder about things that they don’t understand, try new things, and develop individual passions? “I believe the faculty at CDS are outstanding educators who have the ability to inspire, lead, and learn alongside their students rather than simply requiring rote memorization.  There are so many opportunities for students to lead their own learning because of the flexibility and vast interests of the faculty.”

How would you describe your classroom? “My classroom is a place where students feel safe and happy. It is not a class where we sit in rows, listen, and take notes. Instead it is a cooperative learning environment where discussions and democracy rule.”

What books and authors inspire you? “SPARK because it validates the benefits of movement in education.”

What is your favorite quote about education, mentorship, children, and/or learning? “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” - Albert Einstein

How would you describe yourself and/or your approach to your job in 10 words or less? Live, laugh, love and have fun while you learn.”

What personal passion brings balance to your life? “When life is overwhelming, I run.  I love the phrase, “Find yourself...go run.”  It allows me to gain perspective by stepping away from things for a few moments.”

Is there anything else we should know about you and your work? “I love teaching PE in the afternoons each day because I get to see and interact with my students in a different environment.”

How is CDS different from what you experienced as a child in school? “This campus provides so many opportunities for students to be unique and learn what they love. I like the open-ended nature of the educational guiding rather than having a curriculum, set questions and answers. The guided learning allows children to really learn and relate to their learning.”
