Get to know Glen Taylor:

What do you like most about your job at CDS? "So far, I love how warm and welcoming everybody within the Carolina Day Family has been to me as I get started out here in Asheville. Looking further down the road, it excites me to be able to play a small part in helping shape the experiences of our students while at CDS."

What books and authors inspire your work at CDS? "Reading is certainly a passion of mine. I love current writers like Dan Brown, John Sanford, C.C. Box and John Grisham. I also love reading the works of more classic authors like Ernest Hemingway, James Thurber, O. Henry, Mark Twain and Edgar Allan Poe."

What is your favorite quote about education, mentorship, children, and/or learning?

"Here are few that I have always loved:

"The secret is this: strength lies solely in tenacity” -- Louis Pasteur

“Do what you can where you are with what you’ve got” -- Theodore Roosevelt

“Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle” -- Abe Lincoln

“We are what we repeatedly do. Therefore, excellence is not an act but a habit” -- Aristotle

How would you describe yourself and/or your approach to your job in 10 words or less? "Passion + Energy = Success"

What personal passion brings balance to your life? "Watching and attending UNC basketball and football games, reading, listening to music and attending concerts….(Phish, Widespread Panic, Grateful Dead, String Cheese Incident, Railroad Earth, Wilco, Ryan Adams, My Morning Jacket, Iron & Wine….yes I love hippy music)"

How is CDS different from what you experienced as a child in school? Why/how is what you see now valuable? "I actually attended an independent school for 13 years and this is my 23rd year working in an independent school. I am so thrilled and honored to be at Carolina Day School. I have admired our school from afar for many years and it seems almost surreal for me to actually be here now as an employee and as a member of the Asheville community."
