Congratulations to the Class of 2014!

The Class of 2014:
- Boasts 4 National Merit Commended Scholars, a National Merit Finalist, a National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar, and 3 collegiate level student athletes
- Logged more than 3,000 hours of community service over the past 4 years
- Were accepted into 24 honors colleges/programs
- Were offered over $2.9 million in academic and athletic merit scholarships
- Will attend 27 different colleges in 10 states and 2 foreign countries

Class of 2014

The XXVII Commencement Exercises were held Friday, May 30, 2014.

The banners in the procession represent Carolina Day School’s deep history in our predecessor schools: St. Genevieve-of-the-Pines, founded in 1908; Asheville Country Day School, founded in 1936; St. Genevieve/Gibbons Hall, founded by a merger in 1971; and Carolina Day School, which was created by the merger of Asheville Country Day School and St. Genevieve/Gibbons Hall in 1987.

The banners are carried in the processional by alumni who are leaders on the CDS Alumni Board representing each school: Alumni Board president James Baley ’00, members Jo Salley Chander SG/GH ’81Anne Winner ACDS ’79, and Brenda Lunsford Lilly SGP ’69.

The new graduates were escorted out of the ceremony led by the Carolina Day School banner carried by a member of the Class of 2015.

Graduation Banners

The Head of School Award was given to Tom Oreck. The award recognizes a member of the Carolina Day School community who demonstrates exceptional dedication, loyalty, and serve to the school and embodies its values.

The Betty Lou Davis Award was given to Jane Corbin. The award recognizes a teacher each year who has demonstrated devotion to promotion academic achievement with compassion, the development of high moral character, and unselfish loyalty to the school and its students.

The Canie B. Smith Scholar-Athlete Award was given to Natalie Philips. The award  recognizes a student who best exemplifies academic and athletic accomplishment at Carolina Day School. Through his/her CDS career, the student-athlete has demonstrated outstanding scholarship, athleticism, and sportsmanship.

The Top Scholar Award was given to Natalie Philips. The award is given to a senior who has achieved the highest grade point average of the year.

The Faculty Prize was awarded to Christine Zimmerman. The award is given to a senior in recognition of the recipient's true interest in intellectual pursuit for its own sake while simultaneously displaying an unselfish commitment to Carolina Day School.

The Trustee Prize was given to Travis Akers. The award recognizes a student who, through a constructive, positive attitude, has made a marked contribution to the life of the school. Having striven for academic achievement, the recipient has demonstrated both respect and concern for all members of the school community. Above all, the winner has served as an outstanding representative of the school.
