Carolina Day School Honored at the 2017 NCTC High School Play Festival

The Theatre Department at Carolina Day School has much to celebrate, as they bring home honors from the 2017 NCTC High School Play Festival, held at Gardner-Webb University. The theatre program, led by David Dvorscak, made the school and community proud with their presentation of “A Good Man’s Job” at the Festival, and is thrilled to bring home the following awards:
  • Rating: Superior
  • Festival Spirit Award
  • Theatre Arts Award - Excellence in Playwrighting, Zoë Eshan ’18
  • Barbizon Excellence in Design & Production - Costume Design, Nitara Kittles ’18
  • Excellence in Acting - Colton Browder ’19
“A Good Man’s Job” was written by CDS senior, Zoë Eshan. When asked about her experience with the CDS theater department, she said, "The CDS theater department is, as I would like to think, unique to other theater departments. Theater at CDS draws a crowd that often doesn't fit into the 'theater kid stereotype' at all. This year especially. Everyone in the company is involved in so many different activities and forms of expression that we bring a diverse way of thinking to the shows that we put on."
For over 30 years, the NCTC High School Play Festival has strengthened arts education in schools by bringing curriculum to life, challenging students to do their very best work, and contributing to the development of future audiences for live performing arts. The program was named one of the “Top High School Theatre Festivals” by Stage Directions Magazine, is the largest high school theatre event in the Southeast, and has been replicated in 9 other states. This year, 3,000 students from 93 schools performed 126 plays.
