What do you like most about your job at CDS? Using the art of filmmaking as a medium to tell the many wonderful stories that are happening at school. I believe that this form of communication is powerful, and can have many positive effects for the community within the school and the community at large.”

In your opinion, how does the CDS community inspire students to be courageous and curious, wonder about things that they don’t understand, try new things, and develop individual passions? “CDS provides the right atmosphere that encourages this mindset. CDS doesn’t just talk about doing this, but does the hard work to make this atmosphere a reality.”

What books and authors inspire you?
-Leaves of Grass - Walt Whitman
            -Undaunted Courage - Stephen Ambrose
-On the Road - Jack Kerouac

What is your favorite quote about education, mentorship, children, and/or learning? "To start, we must overhaul and redesign the current school system. We face this great transition with both hands tied behind our collective backs if we continue to pour money, time, and effort into an outdated system of education. Mass education belongs in the era of massive armies, massive industrial complexes, and massive attempts at social control. We have lost much talent since the 19th century by enforcing stifling education routines in the name of efficiency. " - Peter W. Cookson Jr.

What personal passion brings balance to your life? “Collecting and listening to records, hanging out with my wife, enjoying being a father, bicycling, swimming, running, hiking, enjoying a variety of different settings when there is a chance to travel (mountains, beach, cities), seeing live music and discovering new forms of expression, embracing adventures.”

Is there anything else we should know about you and your work? After teaching for a little over a decade I really like the chance I have now to view the classroom from a different lens...and to tell other people out there what is going on in these classrooms.”

How is CDS different from what you experienced as a child in school? “School for me didn’t really provide an environment that inspired and supported passions of mine. It was just something that had to be done. I think school has been like that for many people, but I believe that in some places ( like CDS ) there is a shift happening. I want to be a part of that shift.”
