Talents at Key

Talents Exploration

It is our goal to develop “the other side of dyslexia,” which refers to the creative skills many of our students possess. Due to structural differences in the brain, dyslexic individuals have been known to possess special talents for creative thinking, problem solving, visual arts, music, drama, and building, for example. We recognize that our students need to view themselves through their strengths and that our academic program must help them further develop and nurture their talents.

Choice Talents Classes

We help our students identify their gifts and give them the opportunity to have a voice in selecting talents classes to match those gifts, and sometimes lead them to discover gifts they didn’t know they had. These classes are not “vocational” in nature but enriching, hands-on experiences.

Intentional Talents Classes

Through our required curriculum, we offer classes that teach our students important skills in the areas of music, global perspectives, art, computer skills, oral/dramatic expression, and physical education. We know our students must be offered a well-rounded curriculum, so these courses are not a matter of choice.
