Get to know Brian Rannie:

In what ways can you teach/engage children at CDS that you couldn't at other schools?  I am given the flexible and freedom to develop and implement new ideas and activities and feel supported by the administration.”

In your opinion, how does the CDS community inspire students to be courageous and curious, wonder about things that they don’t understand, try new things, and develop individual passions? “Being apart of the 7th grade team we speak early and often about the fact that failure is the key to success.  Here you can be an individual, feeling safe, comfortable, and confident enough to challenge the question, ask why this works or doesn’t.  Doing this while be apart of a community with others who support this way of learning.”

What books and authors inspire you? “John Wooden’s Leadership Game Plan For Success (setting expectations, goals, and revisiting them to achieve the desired result).  Edward Abby books’ show beauty in places often difficult to see.”

What is your favorite quote about education, mentorship, children, and/or learning? Intelligence and skill can only function at the peak of their capacity when the body is healthy and strong. - John F. Kennedy”

Which projects/events are you known for? “Teachings kids to juggle allows for a challenging activity (discover new talents) for all athletic abilities and something that is really cool when you get to college.  I would say that kids remember our timed running events, but they do give opportunity to see improvement which inspires complete effort from students.”

What personal passion brings balance to your life? “Trail Running and cooking/eating”
