What books and authors inspire you, your curriculum, and your classroom? "Although it may not seem like a natural choice for influencing pedagogy, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte is a book I find immensely inspiring for teaching. As a literary text, it offers itself up to nearly endless readings and interpretations. As a guide to education, it reminds us, through the depictions of the teachers at Lowood Academy and Jane's work as a governess, that the best teaching comes when there is an authentic connection between student and teacher. True learning is fostered in an environment of compassion and enthusiasm."
What personal passion brings balance to your life? "Running and hiking are two of my personal passions that bring balance to my life. The time outside alone or with friends gives me the opportunity to process my day, to connect with nature and my community, and to get informed about the world. Ultimately, they make me stronger in mind, body, and spirit."
