New Family HQ

Welcome to Carolina Day School!

We are delighted your family will be joining us at Carolina Day this year!

You may have begun to receive emails from the school to prepare for next year, and you will continue to receive important communications throughout the spring and summer. This page is designed to help you find what you need as a new family. We recommend that you bookmark this page in your browser.

Look for an email from us with instructions for establishing your parent email address. This is how we communicate with parents.

If you don't find what you're looking for here, please let us know!

Upcoming Events

  • Wondering about the first days of school? Check out our handy 2018 Important Back-to-School Dates sheet, which highlights important events happening in August. We recommend you add these dates to your calendar so you won’t miss a thing. In early August you’ll be sent (to your parent email account) more comprehensive information from your division principal regarding the school year.

Whom to Call

MY CDS (online parent/student portal)

The Parent/Student Portal under MY CDS is your source for a wealth of information parents will need throughout the school year. Before school starts in the fall, you’ll receive your credentials for accessing MY CDS.

Calendars

Detailed, division-specific online calendars can be found in MY CDS.

Communications

We utilize email almost exclusively to communicate school information. Our email system is through Google and we establish parent Gmail accounts for each parent, Until your parent Gmail account has been established, we'll communicate with you using the contact information we have on file for you.

During the school year, families receive emails every two weeks from their division with information specific to that division (Lower School, Middle School, Key School and Upper School). Parents and students may also receive emails from teachers, and general emails from CDS with information relevant to all students.

Student Handbook

The Student Handbook is where you can find a wealth of answers to questions a new family might have.

  • 2018-19 Student Handbook (Coming in fall 2018.)

Health-related Requirements
  • A copy of a recent physical is required for all new students (must be within the last year).

  • Medications
    • We follow NC state law regarding immunization requirements for school. All students are required to submit their record of immunizations or the applicable religious or medical exemption.

    • No medications will be given at school or on school-related trips without a parent AND physician signature. This includes ALL over-the-counter medications and is per state law.

    • Students with asthma, food allergies, or diabetes may have permission to carry and self-administer medications related to their condition if they have completed the proper paperwork.

    • Students in the Upper School may have permission to carry and self-administer medications on school overnight trips if they have completed the proper paperwork.

    • Middle School students may have permission to carry and self-administer medications only on international trips and with the proper paperwork.

It is recommended that these forms be completed before the first day of school.

Transportation

Carolina Day offers bus service through Emma Bus Lines for our students. There are two bus routes: a North Asheville route and a South Asheville route.

  • North Asheville Bus - This route runs from Charlotte Street north of 240, through the Grove Park Country Club area, to just North of Beaver Lake. There are four designated spots for morning pick-up and four for afternoon drop-off.

  • South Asheville Bus - New for fall 2018! This route will run through Hendersonville, the Airport Road area, and the Biltmore Park area. There will be three designated spots for morning pick-up and three for afternoon drop-off.

Seats are limited, so if you're interested in using the bus service, please contact Kelli Singogo at ksingogo@carolinaday.org for specific information and annual costs. Contracts are accepted in the order in which they are received until all seats are filled.

School supplies

The majority of school supplies students will need—such as pens, pencils, paper, etc.—are included in tuition and will be purchased by the school and distributed on the first day of classes. There are a few additional items that students will need to bring, and those items will be communicated to parents prior to the start of the school year.
