On Friday, August 25, nationally acclaimed hiker, Jennifer Pharr Davis, gave an inspirational talk to CDS students in middle and lower school about her legendary record-breaking hike on the Appalachian Trail. Her visit to CDS kicked off a new school-wide initiative of outdoor exploration.

Student's in Mrs. Calderón's Spanish class in the Upper School have worked on creating and writing children' stories and donated their book creations to Mrs. Carson' Spanish class in the Lower School.

CDS Grade 5 students participated in a Shark Tank activity based on the popular TV show. Students were challenged to invent a new product and pitch this new product to a panel of mock investors.

CDS fifth-graders built arcade games out of cardboard in STEM class with Mr. Riddell. Grade 5 students then shared their creations with their Grade 3 buddies and had a friendly competition.

Carolina Day School invites area parents, schools, students (grades 5-12), and teachers to a free community forum on the effects of screentime on the human brain, featuring a large-screen showing and discussion of the film, "Screenagers," led by Dr. Beth Vo, Asheville pediatric physician.

In STEM class, students used their knowledge of angles to have a fun, hands-on challenge. The students built a foam rocket, added fins and a rubber band, and then they used a meter stick to launch their rockets.

Carolina Day's fifth grade First Lego League team competed at the First Lego League (FLL) Qualifying Tournament at Blue Ridge Community College Saturday, November 14. The team scored a best overall team record of 217 points.

Pre-K students are immersed in their study of Monarch butterflies. They were thrilled to be invited to CDS parent Nancy Joyce's milkweed garden, which was full of each stage of the butterflies' life cycle.
